Robert Pattinson and Nicholas Hoult Join Expanded James Bond Shortlist After October Screen Tests
What happened
Robert Pattinson and Nicholas Hoult have screen-tested in London for the vacant role of James Bond under director Denis Villeneuve, expanding the official casting shortlist to five candidates.
The Context
- A widened field: Amazon MGM Studios initially narrowed the race to Callum Turner, Josh O’Connor, and Jack Lowden before conducting additional October 24 screen tests with Pattinson and Hoult.
- The creative alignment: Pattinson’s test follows his work with director Denis Villeneuve on *Dune: Part Three*, alongside a 2026 production slate featuring *The Drama*, *The Odyssey*, and *Primetime*.
- The franchise precedent: Landing the 007 role alongside Pattinson's ongoing lead position in *The Batman* would mark a rare multi-franchise executive bet by a major studio backer.
The Number
— The total number of actors who completed formal London screen tests for Amazon MGM Studios, confirming deliberate competition across Britain's top tier of box office talent.
Takeaway
Expect Amazon MGM Studios to formalize its direction once Villeneuve aligns final production schedules across conflicting studio contracts.
