Chiefs Sign Justin Tucker to Practice Squad Amid Harrison Butker Accuracy Concerns
What happened
On October 28, 2026, the Kansas City Chiefs signed veteran kicker Justin Tucker to their practice squad to challenge incumbent starter Harrison Butker.
The Context
* Performance pressure mounts: The Chiefs initiated workouts after Harrison Butker logged repeated missed field goals and extra points, including two critical misses against the Seattle Seahawks. * Return from disciplinary leave: Tucker was released by the Baltimore Ravens in May 2025 and served a 10-game NFL personal conduct suspension following sexual misconduct allegations from 16 massage therapists, which he denied. * Practice squad staging: While Tucker is immediately eligible for promotion to the active roster, Kansas City has not made an immediate change to Butker’s starting status.
The Number
— Tucker’s career field goal conversion rate across 13 NFL seasons (417 makes on 468 attempts), representing historical benchmark efficiency that contenders prioritize during late-season operational fixes.
Takeaway
Expect Kansas City to evaluate Tucker in practice before deciding whether to elevate him for active game days as the team protects its postseason margins.
