Milwaukee Brewers Win First World Series Title in Franchise History With Three Venezuelan Players Holding Dual WBC and World Series Championships in 2026
What happened
Jackson Chourio, William Contreras, and Antonio Senzatela secured baseball's rarest calendar-year double by capturing the World Baseball Classic with Venezuela in March 2026 and leading the Milwaukee Brewers to their first World Series title in October 2026.
The Context
* A historic calendar-year sweep: The Venezuelan trio defeated the United States 3-2 in Miami to win Venezuela's inaugural WBC title, then closed out a 4-1 World Series victory against the Tampa Bay Rays seven months later. * Extremely rare company: Prior to 2026, only two players in baseball history—Alex Bregman and Luke Gregerson with Team USA and the Houston Astros in 2017—had captured both titles in the same calendar year. * Championship-caliber execution: Milwaukee converted a 103-59 regular-season record into its first franchise championship since entering the league, powered by Contreras earning World Series MVP honors.
The Number
— The number of Brewers players who achieved the dual championship in 2026, more than doubling the historical total of athletes who have attained this dual milestone in a single season.
