Canelo Alvarez Reclaims WBC Super Middleweight Title with Unanimous Decision over Christian Mbilli in Riyadh
What happened
Saul "Canelo" Alvarez defeated Christian Mbilli via unanimous decision on October 31, 2026, at Kingdom Arena in Riyadh to reclaim the WBC super middleweight world title.
The Context
- Championship bounce-back: The 36-year-old Mexican veteran rebounded from his September 2025 loss to Terence Crawford, pushing his career professional record to 64-3-2 after 21 years in the ring.
- Title vacancy origin: Mbilli inherited the full WBC belt in January 2026 after Crawford declined to pay sanctioning fees, but suffered his first career loss after Alvarez seized control in the seventh round and Mbilli lost a point in the eighth.
- Gulf sports continuity: The headline fight took place despite elevated regional security threats that forced the cancellation of several other athletic events across Saudi Arabia.
The Number
(alongside 116-111 and 115-112) reflects the wide margin of Alvarez's tactical victory across 12 completed rounds, demonstrating that legacy athletic brands retain their commercial and athletic viability at the highest competitive tier.
