Harmanpreet Kaur Steps Down as Captain of India Women's Cricket Team

On 6 October 2026, Harmanpreet Kaur announced her immediate resignation as captain of the India women's cricket team across all formats. This decision followed a review meeting with BCCI officials amid scrutiny over her recent performance and the team's T20 World Cup results. The long-term implication is a shift towards younger leadership with Smriti Mandhana taking over, potentially reshaping the future of Indian women's cricket.
