Apple Unveils First Touchscreen MacBook Pro With Tandem OLED ProLED XDR Display
What happened
Apple announced its first touchscreen MacBook Pro models featuring tandem OLED ProLED XDR displays, M5 Pro and M5 Max chips, and Dynamic Island integration.
The Context
* Ergonomic reversal: After years of resisting touch-enabled laptops, Apple integrated touch sensors directly into the display panel to minimize latency for scrolling, pinch-to-zoom, and precision drawing. * Hardware upgrades: The 14-inch and 16-inch models introduce tandem OLED screens delivering up to 2,000 nits of brightness, a 120Hz ProMotion refresh rate, and support for up to 128GB of unified memory. * Release timeline: Despite industry forecasts projecting delays into 2027, preorders opened on October 28, 2026, with general delivery set for November 6, 2026.
The Number
— the entry price for the base 14-inch model with 24GB unified memory and 1TB storage, establishing a $400 premium over traditional non-touch alternatives for professional creators.
Takeaway
Expect developers to rapidly retool macOS productivity suites for direct panel gestures before enterprise refresh cycles kick in next quarter.
