Apple Launches First Touchscreen MacBook Pro With M5 Pro and M5 Max Chips and ProLED XDR Display
What happened
Apple introduced its first touchscreen MacBook Pro models featuring M5 Pro and M5 Max chips, tandem OLED displays, and Dynamic Island integration starting at $2,899.
The Context
* Display tech breaks the design deadlock: Apple resolved its historical ergonomic resistance to touch laptops by deploying tandem OLED panels that eliminate backlights, trimming overall machine weight to 3 pounds for the 14-inch model and 4 pounds for the 16-inch version. * Dual input preserves core desktop productivity: Direct screen interaction and iOS-optimized apps sit alongside traditional trackpad-and-keyboard navigation without altering foundational macOS workflows. * Display specs target visual workflows: The updated ProLED XDR screen hits up to 2,000 nits of peak brightness, a 10,000,000:1 contrast ratio, and a 120Hz ProMotion refresh rate for power users.
The Number
represents the new entry price for the base 14-inch M5 Pro model (configured with 24GB unified memory and 1TB storage), establishing a $400 premium uplift over previous generations for high-output professionals.
Takeaway
Expect competitive workstation makers to accelerate touch-enabled enterprise hardware cycles as preorders roll out toward general market delivery on November 6, 2026.
