Gunmen Kill Seven and Wound Dozens at Greek Orthodox Church Funeral in Karak Jordan
What happened
Gunmen opened fire during a funeral service at Hamoud Church in Karak, Jordan, killing six people and wounding 28 others before fleeing the scene.
The Context
* A rare targeted assault: The incident unfolded 180 kilometers south of Amman in Karak Governorate, where authorities immediately classified the coordinated gunfire as a terrorist act and deployed security forces on an active manhunt. * Information controls deployed: Jordan's Attorney General enacted an immediate media publication ban covering traditional outlets and social platforms while the National Security Council convened to manage the response. * Historical flashpoint: Karak previously experienced coordinated attacks in 2016 that left 10 dead, making this incident a critical test for regional security architecture and domestic stability.
The Number
— With official counts confirming six dead and 28 wounded, regional risk managers must prepare for reinforced security footprints, expanded transit disruptions across southern transit routes, and immediate operational containment protocols.
Takeaway
Expect intensified security deployments and tightened border surveillance across Jordan as authorities pursue the perpetrators under strict domestic media bans.
