Trump Offers White House Press Secretary Role to Dana White After Midterm Losses
What happened
On November 7, 2026, President Donald Trump publicly offered the vacant White House press secretary role to UFC President and CEO Dana White following midterm election losses.
The Context
* A shifting political landscape: The public offer arrived 24 hours after Democrats won majorities in both congressional chambers, prompting the administration to recruit a combative public face ahead of potential oversight hearings. * The vacancy timeline: The press secretary seat has remained open since October 16, 2026, following the departure of Katie Zacharia after less than a week on the job. * The current trajectory: While White posted an image hinting at the role and scheduled an in-person meeting in Washington on November 10, multiple reports indicate he declined the position.
The Number
— the brief tenure of previous press secretary Katie Zacharia, establishing the shortest record for the role and underscoring the acute turnover risk within high-visibility executive communications teams.
